This private residence project is a new house designed for a rural eight-acre site in Aledo, Texas. The client desired an informal, affordable modern house which connected with the surrounding landscape, while enriching and enhancing their casual lifestyle.
The house is a two-story cruciform plan with living, kitchen, dining, study and a master bedroom on the first floor, and bedrooms and baths on the second floor. The two distinct parts of the house frame an outdoor terrace, which is accessible from the master bedroom and the living room. The living room is a fourteen foot high barrel vaulted space, with exposed bowed trusses and clerestory windows, and a fireplace.
The program is reflected and reinforced by the language of materials used for each component part of the house. Materials are concrete block, corrugated metal siding, cement board siding, and standing seam metal roofing.
